ABC is focused on innovation, research and advice that is helping the built environment sector accelerate its journey to net zero. It does this by building evidence through the deployment and active use of energy systems in buildings. Buildings (including surface transport) account for over 40% of carbon emissions in the UK. There is a great need to assist the construction and housing sectors to reduce these impacts as we work toward net zero by 2050. There are also major constraints on our energy systems as we also shift to greater electrification of homes and transport in the shift to net zero. ABC was created in 2019 as part of the UK Government’s Transforming Construction challenge. We work closely with a wide range of industry, education and research partners. We are currently working on exciting plans for our future. ABC aspires to develop a highly networked, inclusive and integrated renewable energy ecosystem across the UK, and beyond. We also work to stimulate and support the emergence of new businesses. Our focus is on supporting and partnering with housing, construction and government agencies on their decarbonisation journey. ABC’s ambition is to accelerate the uptake of the active building approach which is: renewable energy generation, management and storage within buildings and their related interaction with the energy grid.
