O Instituto Caminhabilidade é uma organização sem fins lucrativos, liderada por mulheres e fundada em 2012 que, movida pela urgência de alcançar a equidade de gênero e enfrentar a crise climática, desenvolve cidades caminháveis com o protagonismo da cidadania. Para isso, faz projetos e ações, de forma colaborativa e prioritária para mulheres, crianças, idosas, pessoas com deficiência e pessoas negras e indígenas, principalmente em territórios marginalizados. Cria pontes entre sociedade civil, poder público e outros atores para propor soluções com potencial transformador. Faz isso por meio de duas frentes de atuação, a promoção da cultura do caminhar e a humanização das cidades, integrando cinco linhas de ação: formação e informação; pesquisa e consultoria; redes e eventos; projetos urbanos; e advocacy e parcerias. Realiza pesquisas, consultorias, metodologias, formações, oficinas, intervenções, projetos urbanos, palestras, eventos, premiações, mapeamentos, redes, conteúdos, formulação de políticas e leis, entre outras. Com isso, almeja criar ambientes mais justos e que melhoram a qualidade de vida de todas as pessoas - independente de idade, gênero, raça, renda, credo, origem e condições físicas, mentais e emocionais - ao garantir acesso, colaboração, sustentabilidade, segurança, acolhimento, saúde e dinamismo. Alguns projetos já desenvolvidos são: - Paulista Aberta, principal programa de abertura de ruas e avenidas para as pessoas em São Paulo; - Metodologias técnicas e participativas para a transformação dos espaços públicos por meio da caminhabilidade com perspectiva de gênero junto ao poder público em Curitiba e Salvador; - Projetos de legibilidade cidadã, como o mapa Bixiga a Pé e o Passeia, Jardim Nakamura; - Estudos, experimentações e ações de ativação para melhorar os espaços públicos, como o Laboratório Rio Pinheiros, projeto para democratizar as margens do Rio Pinheiros.
