La historia de Varela Hermanos S. A., se remonta a 1908 cuando Don José Varela Blanco, un joven emigrante español, funda en Pesé el Ingenio San Isidro, primer ingenio azucarero en la recién formada República de Panamá. El pueblo de Pesé, establecido a mediados del siglo XVIII, se encuentra en un fértil valle en el centro de Panamá, donde la principal actividad de su población de cerca de 10,000 habitantes es el cultivo de la caña. En 1936, accediendo a los deseos de sus 3 hijos mayores, José Manuel, Plinio y Julio, Don José inicia la destilación del jugo de caña para la elaboración de licores, y se distingue desde el principio por productos de extraordinaria calidad. Desde entonces, Varela Hermanos S. A. ha mantenido el liderazgo en la industria de licores de Panamá, y hoy día produce aproximadamente un millón de cajas anuales, que representa el 90% del mercado nacional de licores. En la empresa laboran 700 trabajadores permanentes, con funciones que van desde el corte de la caña hasta la promoción y venta de los productos terminados. Hoy, casi un siglo después de que Don José iniciara operaciones en Pesé, una tercera generación y siguiendo la misma tradición familiar, dirige Varela Hermanos S. A., la principal industria licorera de Panamá. Con una sólida infraestructura de producción, y la pasión y dedicación de todo el personal que trabaja en la empresa, nos preparamos para una mayor presencia en el mercado internacional como exportadores de finos licores y rones.
