Padang Bulan Campus is the University of Sumatera Utara’s main campus which located in Padang Bulan Sub District , District of Medan Baru and has been operated since 1957. Initially, Padang Bulan Campus was located in suburban area of Medan, however, with the development of Medan, now the campus is located in the center of the city. This campus has an area of 122 acreage with an academic zone of 100 acreage. Padang Bulan Campus can be easily reach from the city center or from the airport, it is 15km distance or 20 minutes by taxi from the city center (Merdeka Square) or around 30 minutes using public transport. The distance from Polonia International Airport to USU Campus is about 6km or 15 minutes by taxi.

On May 29th , 2010 the Prime Minister of Pakistan, visited swat and announced the establishment of university of swat. The university came into formal existence at dated 07/07/2010 by the Honorable Governor. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr.Awais Ahmad Ghani with the prior approval of the President of Pakistan. Its first Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Farooq Khan (Shaheed) was appointed on 23/08/2010. The Higher Education Department (HED) handed over two buildings to the university located at saidu sharif swat. Land Acquisition for the Universitys own campus has been initiated and shall be sorted out soon. In its first Academic session 2010-11 the university opened the following seven department. Department of Business Administration Department of Computer Science Department of Development Studies Department of Economics Department of Education Department of Law and Sharia Department of Statistics In the session 2011-12 one discipline of Software Engineering and four more departments of Zoology, Microbiology and Environmental Sciences at BS level are introduced.
