The United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) is a membership organization dedicated to inform, inspire, and mobilize the American people to support the ideals and vital work of the United Nations. For 70 years UNA-USA has worked to accomplish its mission through its national network of Chapters, youth engagement, advocacy efforts, education programs, and public events. UNA-USA is a program of the United Nations Foundation. UNA-USA and its sister organization the Better World Campaign represent the single largest network of advocates and supporters of the United Nations in the world. The Northern New Jersey Chapter covers the counties in the northern part of the state which include Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren counties. United Nations Associations (UNA’s) are independent membership organizations with non-governmental status. UNAP comes under the umbrella of WFUNA; which is an independent, non-governmental organization with Category One Consultative Status at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); Associate Status with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) and United Nations Organization for Education Science and Culture (UNESCO); Special List with the UN International Labor Organization (ILO); General Status with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); Status with UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), International Atomic and Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN World Metereological Association and consultative or liaison links with many other UN organizations and agencies. WFUNA is set up under Article 60 of the Swiss Civil Code. Its offices are located within the UN headquarters in New York and Geneva. UNA representatives regularly attend UN meetings and conferences such as the UN General Assembly, the Human Rights Council and the UPR Working Group, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review, UN conferences on Climate Change, etc.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a dedicated training arm of the United Nations, serving close to 545,000 beneficiaries annually by conducting more than 1,400 training and research activities around the world. The Institute’s research promotes policies and programmes to reduce these risks, while taking into account the interplay between environmental and societal factors. The Institute is located in Bonn, Germany. Our research areas include: - Climate change adaptation, including insurance-related approaches - Environmentally induced migration and social vulnerability - Ecosystem services and environmental deterioration - Analytical tools and models to help understand vulnerability and risks linked to natural hazards. We are also actively engaged in education. UNU-EHS offers a joint masters of science degree with the University of Bonn, titled in the Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security.
