A Associação Educacional de Araras, mantenedora do Centro Universitário de Araras "Dr. Edmundo Ulson" - UNAR -, iniciou suas atividades como Faculdade de Ciências e Letras de Araras, fundada em dezembro de 1971. A Associação Educacional de Araras nasceu do idealismo de um grupo de professores que, desde o ano de 1953, mantinham um estabelecimento de ensino secundário, denominado Colégio Comercial Conde Sílvio Álvares Penteado.
