NED University of Engineering & Technology, formerly called the NED Government Engineering College, was established in March 1977 through an act of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Pakistan. NED Government Engineering College was set up in 1922 and therefore, it is one of the oldest engineering degree-awarding institutions in Pakistan. NED College was initially affiliated with the University of Bombay. After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, it was taken over by the Government of Sindh, renamed as NED Government Engineering College, and affiliated to the University of Sindh. Once the University of Karachi was established in 1951, the affiliation of NED College was transferred to it. In 1964, NED College was shifted from its initial location in downtown (City Campus) to the current location on University Road (Main Campus), adjacent to the University of Karachi. Finally, on March 1, 1977, NED Government Engineering College was upgraded to the present NED University of Engineering & Technology.
