Our Mission Inspired by Jewish values, we improve lives through service. Our History Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit (JFS) came into being as two local relief organizations -- the Hebrew Ladies Sewing Circle and the Self Help Circle -- joined in a commitment to meet the needs of the local Jewish community. JFS incorporated in 1928, with the specific mission of “Finding homes for orphan children and supplying homemakers for families with an ill or absent mother.” Before World War II, JFS helped Jewish families new to the country acculturate to life in Detroit and provided assistance to ensure their safety and well-being. After the Holocaust, JFS’ work changed dramatically, as the agency worked tirelessly to resettle and serve the material and psychological needs of Holocaust Survivors. In subsequent years, JFS joined with local and national partners to resettle thousands of Jewish Refugees from the Former Soviet Union. Over the course of 96 years, JFS has evolved into a comprehensive social service provider, helping individuals and families within the Jewish and broader communities. Our Services JFS currently operates 30 separate programs with a combined budget of more than $28 million, carried out by a staff of more than 100. These programs serve thousands in our community each year, with services uniquely tailored to individuals’ and families’ specific needs. The agency's programming centers on three core areas: safety net services for individuals and families, counseling services, and services for older adults.

JFS is a non-profit, non-sectarian social service agency whose mission is to preserve and strengthen the quality of individual, family and community life based on Jewish values. JFS provides services to a diverse socio-economic client population that includes individuals, children, young adults, families and the elderly. Services include Mental Health Counseling, Senior Support Services, Holocaust Survivors Assistance , Career Services, Family Mentor/Senior Friendly Visitor Programs, Special Needs Programs, Ohr Tikvah Jewish Healing Program, Emergency Assistance, Family Life Education and Information and Referral.

JFS Delaware's mission is to strengthen individuals, families, and the community by providing counseling and support services. We are a socially responsible agency that supports philanthropic and community-building activities throughout Durham and Chapel Hill. Locally, hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent annually to help those in need children in need of summer camps, people struck by personal or economic tragedy and the frail elderly. Many of our programs are driven by hundreds of our volunteers who are dedicated to making Durham-Chapel Hill a better place for all of us.

Jewish Federation of Madison is part of the Jewish Federations of North America, a nationwide humanitarian network that serves millions of Jews and non-Jews every day around the world. The Jewish Federation network includes 157 Federations and 400 network communities. As part of the Federation community, Jewish Federation of Madison has been helping enrich Jewish life and assist those facing hardship here at home and around the world since 1940. Jewish Federation of Madison helps support more than 20 essential local programs and agencies, including the Hilde L. Mosse Gan HaYeled Preschool, Camp Shalom, Midrasha Hebrew High School, Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Jewish Community Campus, Goodman Aquatic Center, Community Israeli Shlichim, Jewish Burial Association of Madison, Wisconsin Jewish Conference, University of Wisconsin Hillel, Chabad at UW and Jewish Social Services. Through its overseas partners, Jewish Federation of Madison also helps provide rescue, relief, and development programs and services to Jewish communities in need in Israel and 70 other countries, including the former Soviet Union, Latin America, Africa, and Central and Eastern Europe. Jewish Federation of Madison and its overseas partners also provide non-sectarian aid to overseas communities in times of crisis.
