Die HCU wurde 2006 als Zusammenschluss von drei Hamburger Hochschulen gegründet und ist als Universität für Baukunst und Metropolenentwicklung einzigartig in der Hamburger Hochschullandschaft. Die HCU vereint alle Aspekte des Bauens in Gestaltung und Entwurf, Ingenieur- und Naturwissenschaften sowie Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften unter einem Dach. Alle Fachgebiete werden konsequent fachübergreifend und integriert gedacht. Im Jahr 2014 hat die HCU ihren Neubau in der HafenCity in Betrieb genommen und damit die Grundlagen für die interdisziplinäre Forschung und Lehre mit hohem Praxisbezug geschaffen. Rund 2.400 Studierende und 450 Mitarbeiter arbeiten hier heute zusammen. Die HafenCity als größtes innerstädtisches Stadtentwicklungsprojekt Europas bietet den Wissenschaftlern dabei den besonderen Reiz eines Stadtlabors vor der eigenen Haustür. - HafenCity University (HCU) was founded in 2006 as a fusion of three universities and colleges in Hamburg. As a university of the Built Environment and Metropolitan Development the HCU combines all aspects of construction with respect to planning and design, engineering and natural sciences as well as cultural and social sciences. All disciplines are consequently brought together in an interdisciplinary and integrated manner. In 2014 the HCU moved into its new building in Hamburg’s HafenCity and thus created the foundations of interdisciplinary research and teaching with a high practical relevance. Today, 2.400 students and 450 employees work together in the HafenCity, a special location in Europe’s largest inner-city development project.
