UrbanKnowmad is an Education lab whose mission is to re:invent a more powerful, more soulful and more meaningful school culture for the 21st century. 1. Why does it matter to us? During a transformation project for a big corporate in the UAE, 4 years ago I was asked if I could imagine running a transformation project in a school. I intuitively said yes and afterwards started thinking: Why does a school need a transformation process at all? With my mentor Holger Beckmann* I started to think about the needs of today's schools and how we can help them to solve these needs and sometimes problems. He was a realist and I was a dreamer, but exactly this combination of interdisciplinary and interculturality helped us to create something unique with UrbanKnowmad. So with everything we do, we aim to challenge the status quo of Education. We aim to think differently and leave a mark with this project just to make sure that the passion to re:invent school don't go to waste. 2. What do we do to re:invent School? At UrbanKnowmad we create spaces to spread new impulses and ways of thinking to the educational landscape. To do so we train teachers and equip them with tools they need to develop new learning formats that will add value to their school. Beside our trainee program and together with young local architecture we will work on a school concept that looks and feels like a research lab or design studio, where curiosity is cultivated to unlock endless discovery. 3. How do we achieve holistic change? - In our "education garage"​ we network actors and identify educational innovations. - In our "design lab"​ we take up these impulses and develop new learning formats and materials. - In our EDU "Pop-up Space"​ we offer hands on after school workshops based on our newly designed learning formats.
