UMIG is a group of U of M students that have a keen interest in finance. You don't have to be a finance student to be in UMIG. All we ask is that you have a passion to learn more about the world of finance and a willingness to share that knowledge with others. We believe that by pooling a lot of talented minds together we can create a breeding ground for creative thought. After all, isn't the world of investing all about creative thought? The graduating class of Finance majors at the U of M is getting stronger every year. The U of M has produced finance grads that have gone on to have very successful careers. Our goal is to keep this up by getting students to share their ideas and create new ones. The line separating investment and speculation, which is never bright and clear, becomes blurred still further when most market participants have recently enjoyed triumphs. Nothing sedates rationality like large doses of effortless money. After a heady experience of that kind, normally sensible people drift into behavior akin to that of Cinderella at the ball. They know that overstaying the festivitiesthat is, continuing to speculate in companies that have gigantic valuations relative to the cash they are likely to generate in the futurewill eventually bring on pumpkins and mice. But they nevertheless hate to miss a single minute of what is one helluva party. Therefore, the giddy participants all plan to leave just seconds before midnight. Theres a problem, though: They are dancing in a room in which the clocks have no hands. - Warren Buffet
