The Santo Tomás University was originally founded by the Ordo Praedicatorum (Dominicans) on June 13, 1580, in Santafé de Bogotá. In 1608, the Santo Tomás College was re-established, which later merged with the University for General Studies, giving birth to the Santo Tomás College and University, that would also be known as the Thomistic University.
