State University, working as an autonomous entitiy since 1967. The main campus is north of the city of Cuernavaca, in Chamilpa. The idea is to have a campus in each of the cardinal points of the state of Morelos. The Facultad de Ciencias was founded in the early 90s, with strong collaboration from UNAM, in order to have an undergraduate school that educated scientists, which could be fed to the research institutes of UNAM resident in the same campus. Cuernavaca is one of the cities in Mexico with the largest proportion of researchers per capita (we used to be called the City of Knowledge, or something of the sort). Currently, UAEM is one of the state universities with the largest number of researchers in Mexico.
