Packs for Cold Backs is a 501©3 organization that's focused on creating connections and providing immediate aid, resources, and housing to the unhoused communities we serve. What started as a Christmas Day tradition of handing out backpacks to people experiencing homelessness has transformed into a nonprofit organization that spans three states. Since our founding in 2011, we have distributed thousands of backpacks filled with food and essentials in California, Arizona and Washington through our monthly community engagement events. As we continue to grow, we are expanding outreach and providing resources to end the systemic problem of homelessness. With the help of our dedicated officers, volunteers, and donors, we've fulfilled our mission of distributing resources to the homeless community. Along with backpacks, we provide clients a sense of companionship to combat their marginalization, social isolation, and lack of support. As of 2021, Packs for Cold Backs began a new navigation program focused on connecting the unhoused community to much needed resources. If an individual or family chooses to receive our assistance, we conduct an immediate needs assessment to assess the physical, mental, and emotional state of our clients. Once completed, we assess our findings and approach meeting those needs following a triaged manner. Our Navigation & Wrap Around program covers a broad spectrum of services including but not limited to: • SSI & Disability case management • Obtaining various forms of identification • Attending court dates with clients • Transport to appointments • Signing up for government assistance programs (CalFresh, DSA, CalWORKs, etc.) • Connecting to mental health services • Assistance enrolling in drug addiction/aversion programs • Connecting with 2-1-1 Other Programs include: 1) Emergency & Permanent Housing 2) Voting Initiative 3) Racial Equity 4) Community Partnerships To learn more, please visit our website at: www.packsforcoldbacks.org
