The collection spans works published from the 16th century to the most current publications. The NLJ is an agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport. Its mission is to support national development through collecting, cataloguing, preserving and providing information about Jamaicas history and cultural heritage and to promote a thriving network of libraries and services. It is unique in its role in the formal and informal education of the country and is the only library on the island positioned to serve an audience wider than its residents and its diaspora in the global information network.
