California Health Sciences University was founded in 2012 and is the first university of its kind in the Central Valley. CHSU offers a local option for those seeking post-graduate and doctoral programs and to help remedy the shortage of health care services offered in the Valley. The College of Pharmacy opened in 2014 and was the first program offered because of the demand for pharmacists in the region. CHSU launched their Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016, with plans to accept students as early as 2020. The university plans to open up to 10 post-baccalaureate colleges to train health care professionals in the coming years.
